Conclusion: Reflections on trip to Guangzhou
Introduction: 3D2N Guangzhou Trip (Part of Guangdong trip)
Guangzhou is only about 1.5 hours train ride away from Shenzhen. So I felt that it was only natural for Guangzhou to be part of my itinerary. I have decided to spend two days exploring the Islamic presence in this city. Surprisingly, there are a couple of significant Islamic sites here.
There is the Huaisheng Mosque which was believed to have been built 1,300 years ago in 627 AD by Sa`d ibn Abi Waqqas. And there is also a tomb which is purported to be Sa`d ibn Abi Waqqas’s. Both sites are in the Yuexiu District of Guangzhou.
So essentially, this is an interesting trip. I mean who would have thought there are important historical Islamic sites at the east end of China, so far away from Saudia Arabia and Xinjiang.
In Guangzhou, I will be staying at China Hotel, A Marriott Hotel, Guangzhou for the first night and Aloft Guangzhou Tianhe for the second. I will be visiting the Huaisheng Mosque and the tomb of Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas. And based on my googling, there are many halal restaurants all over Guangzhou. So keeping my stomach full constantly shouldn’t be a problem at all.
I will be flying back to Singapore on Scoot TZ127 CAN-SIN at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN). The flight is at 3 am. Naturally, I am apprehensive as to how I will keep awake until then.
